Hello Team,

Happy Monday!

This week we will be discussing on the strategist to deal with students who might have attitude issue, and/or disrespectful toward teachers/SCs. I know there is no short cut way to solve this issue. However, i am sure this piece of reading might be thoughtful for us.

Enjoy reading ! And please feel free to put your thoughts in the comment.

  1. My way of dealing with attitudes and disrespect varies with my students (obviously, but one thing I've noticed is that there are times when I just stop what I am doing and smile at a student being disrespectful, and I stare at them until they stop and say "thank you". I have no idea why that works, but I feel that the students I work with thinks it drives me insane to the point where the faces I make look creepy, so they actively avoid it. My other go to, specifically for my male students, is to straight up tell them to apologize, because then it makes them feel like they aren't being gentlemen, and some of the younger boys really care about that. I usually only do this when it's disrespect or attitude towards another student. There's also giving the student a "what if it was you" scenario and then they straighten up. For students that usually dont lash out in the classroom, the teacher or myself take them aside and ask if everything is okay. A gentle approach can be more effective with "troubled" students sometimes. When the disrespect isn't directed towards me and the teacher instead, I let my teacher handle it, since I'm not the disciplinarian of the classroom.

Hi Everyone, Welcome to our Learning Log- 2. Here is the plan for this week discussion- Imagine you have been called for a job talk of an organization which is similar to Peer Power mission. During the interview process you were given following two reading materials-     1.      Confronting Barriers to Learning to Help All Children Succeed. Link 2.      Also, we will be exploring an organization name “ Turnaroundusa ”. They are similar in nature what we do in Peer Power. What I/we will do? Or your task! Based on the above two readings and your professional experience with Peer Power, you will be coming up with 3/5 recommendations/changes that you want to see in your team/school during Fall 2017. You are welcome to use case studies and/or any other experience related to your recommendations. Due date: 10/01/2017 by 11.57PM Thanks Hasan
