  1. I think it is interesting that this article highlights external factors when it comes to apathetic students. It is easy to get caught up with the internal things- what goes on in the classroom, how students treat other, how the students respond to their teachers and coaches, etc. There should be an equal focus on a student's academic and personal life, at least to a point where we notice if something has affected our students, both positively and negatively. For my students who opt out or are easily frustrated, I try to ask them questions about what's going on, if they're okay, etc. Usually students just need help with the work, so I will walk them through questions and see how they're thinking, and other times they are brooding over something that has happened at home, a fight with a friend, or even just overthinking situations. Children have the tendency to be more emotionally sensitive because they're growing and learning how to be adults one day, so sometimes just being able to be there for a student or reminding them that they are important is the exact push they need. The bonds we build with our students make a great impact, and we should be aware of our influence on them, as well as the outside forces that have influences over their lives.

Hi Everyone, Welcome to our Learning Log- 2. Here is the plan for this week discussion- Imagine you have been called for a job talk of an organization which is similar to Peer Power mission. During the interview process you were given following two reading materials-     1.      Confronting Barriers to Learning to Help All Children Succeed. Link 2.      Also, we will be exploring an organization name “ Turnaroundusa ”. They are similar in nature what we do in Peer Power. What I/we will do? Or your task! Based on the above two readings and your professional experience with Peer Power, you will be coming up with 3/5 recommendations/changes that you want to see in your team/school during Fall 2017. You are welcome to use case studies and/or any other experience related to your recommendations. Due date: 10/01/2017 by 11.57PM Thanks Hasan
