  1. The math and reading scores being at the same level present a balance that's not seen on average. He talks about students reading out of love and not out of force like test require them to. I also like the problem solving skills with previous tools because it helps them with real life situations. The "I do, we do, you do," method will show them how to parent their own situations and take themselves through the steps based on the consistency of being challenged. They're also inside the same classroom for the whole day, which that helps keep their concentration under control and not broken by those obnoxious bells. They have a wall of appreciation to students and that could make students feel welcomed to school more than being pressured to be there for a reason beyond them.

  2. The article is very interesting because it gives insight on what a successful school does and what teachers are doing or have done to help build that excellence. To me it seems to start with the teachers and them giving their own hard effort to receive that hard effort from their students. It feels that everyone is trying to find the next quick and easy way to teach students instead of putting in any effort themselves. It would be really easy to stick students in front of a computer screen and then sit back and monitor while the computer program does all of the work. The students, though, do not feel any passion or motivation toward learning and this is why the teachers and the culture they set are so vital to students' success. One thing that I have seen with the high school students is that they really appreciate it when you take a genuine interest in what they doing and talk to them as emerging adults. Building that kind of relationship helps the students because they know what I expect them to do and I know what they expect me to do.

  3. Brooke Charter School is doing some things right! They get it. The nurturing environment and student- teacher relationships promote student success. The students at Brooke are seen as actual human beings instead of numbers on a data sheet. These students are known by their teachers and they're pushed to think critically through trial and error, practice and discussion. The fact that teachers allow the students to talk through the learning process, even posting their comments and ideas along the walls of the classroom shows that humanizing your students has a huge impact. Traditional education has become dangerously mechanic. There are so many brillant voices being silenced by monologue. Allowing students into the conversation of their own education empowers them and it creates aa generation of self- thinkers. These students fall in love with education because of the ingenious way that it is presented to them. I love what Brooke Charter school has done; it's no surprise that they are ranked at the top of the chart.
